|More about BOGUINSKAYA Svetlana:|
|Svetlana Leonidovna BOGUINSKAIA began competing in gymnastics in 1979, having first concentrated on artistic roller skating. She has been on national senior team from 1987 to 1992, when she retired from competition.
While watching Tatiana Lyssenko and Shannon Miller at the 1994 World Championships, Svetlana decided to come back again to the competition with a new role. She wanted to be an inspiration for the "older" gymnasts to stay in the sport and not to succumb to the unwritten "17 years old rule" that says a girl must give up the sport when she becomes a woman!
Svetlana who was once seemingly unapproachable with a dark and icy-cool appearance has metled into a friendly, happy, caring, young woman.
Svetlana's movements on the floor exercise were developed by former Bolshoi Ballet Dance,r Dmitry BEGAK, and characterize the Russian ballet's dramatic and theatrical movements.
She is the first woman gymnast since Soviet Ludmila Tourischeva to appear in 3 Olympics (68 - 72 - 76).
She got married in 1999 with William Yee. Both and their daughter Anna Julietta are living in Houston TX.
