Physical Training Master at Helsinki High School, Teacher and Doctor at Finnish Sports Institute (1937-1940). Military Doctor in the Finnish Army (1940-1946), Kajaani Town Officer of Health 1946-1972.
Member of the Board of the Finnish Gymnastics Association (1932-1933 and 1960-1961) Member of the State Physial Education Committee (1945-1946).
Heikki Savolainen is one of the most famous names of the Finnish sport. After ending his competing career, he has markedly influenced the life of gymnastics. In 1966, he received the Great Cross of Merit of Finnish Sport, the highest cross of merit for sports in Finland. Only 12 Finnish sport activists can simultaneously carry these crosses.
1st participation at Olympic Games at age of 20, last in 1952 at age 44!
Placed 1st in special 1931 World Championships for 50th FIG anniversary in Paris, but because of special rules, was not awarded.
In 1952, in his home City of Helsinki, hosting the Olympic Games, he read the Olympic oath for all athletes in the main stadium.
