|More about JANZ Karin:|
|She was one of the best gymnasts in the World in the end of the 1960’s and the beginning of the 1970’s.
Her name is still mentioned during Gymnastics competitions all over the world in connection with the element on Uneven bars - The Janz Salto - named after her. She performed it for the first time at the Dinamo Spartakiade in Berlin, in 1971.
Karin’s father, Guido Janz, was her first coach, who taught her an excellent ABC of Gymnastics. When she moved to the Sports School in Forst, she trained under Klaus Helbeck and finally she was coached by Jurgen Heritz.
General public would have known Karin’s name much better hadn’t she appeared on the international stage together with the constellation of great Russian gymnasts including Ludmila Turischeva and Olga Korbut. She did not have artistic charisma as theirs, but she was in many cases superior technician. Small and impressively fit, Karin Janz was also born to compete under pressure.
Together with Erik Zuchold, Karin built tremendous respect for the the DDR Gymnastics School, whose next stars were Annelore Zinke and Maxi Gnauk.
Today Karin Janz (Mrs Karin Buttner, after her wedding for a former sport acrobat) - is a recognized Doctor, specialist in Sports Medicine (Orthopedic in particular) and well known for her knowledge in knee diagnostics.
