More about IVANKOV Ivan:
Ivankov is a role-model for thousands of young gymnasts all over the world, and one of the few great 'stylists' left in Gymnastics nowadays!

The 1994 World All-around Champion, appreciated highly for his elegant performances, was considered Contender N. 1 for the Olympic title in Atlanta’96, when, unfortunately, he snapped his Achilles 12 days before the Games. Showing ultimate dedication to gymnastics, Ivankov was back to the floor the next year, winning his second World title in Lausanne’97.

This is the gymnast who also led Belarus to their first ever Team title, in Ghent’01, when, (as if truthful to his bad competitive fortunes), he lost his third World Individual title to the young Chinese Feng Jing by mere 0.087 points, in the very last rotation of the competition!

Still he has earned one of the best palmares in gymnastics history and always helped his team.

Why this sport : For Ivankov, gymnastics is a way of life that started at the age of six, when two gymnastics coaches came to his kindergarten. "They said they were from the cinema, like Hollywood. They needed a boy for a movie. They had a bar and said whoever could do 10 chin-ups could be in the movie. It was very hard, we were six years old. Two boys could do five. I did eight and a half. I could get up for the ninth, but I hung there trying. They said "little boy, come down, you can't do it", but I wouldn't I was crying, saying "I have to do ten". So they took one leg each and pushed me up, so I could do ten"

These two talents scouts, Vladimir Doylidov and Vladimir Vatkin later became Ivankov's coaches... "The first time they took me to the gym, I knew this wasn't the cinema, but it was like a movie. It was not like real... a different world. My different world.

Hobbies : He spends his spare time fishing. Fan of pop music and of car racing. "I like pizzas, bannas, caviar, salmon roe, rock ballads, disco dancing, fishing, driving cars, and collecting music tapes".

Most admired person : Michael Jordan and Shaquille O'Neal
