More about TITOV Yuri:
A former and outstanding President !

It frequently happens that international sports organizations are headed by people who never practised élite sports. This is not the case of Yuri Titov, President of the FIG since 1976 to 1996.

This election represented a minor revolution in the world of gymnastics.
First of all, this new President was distinguished by his youthfulness - he was only 41. Then, he was the first Russian to take the reins of the important organization that FIG had become.
Yuri Titov is amiable and often considered too active for some people, since he wants to know about everything. Yuri Titov also has the merit of being very well informed about his own particular sport. He received the silver Olympic Order in 1992. In 1996, he was elected a Member of the International Olympic Committee.

He was born in Omsk and went to Kiev with his parents at the age of eight. There, he discovered gymnastics. He joined the USSR team in 1956 at the Olympic Games in Melbourne, when Russian "gym" reigned throughout the world, even ahead of Japan. His career lasted at this level from 1956 to 1966, a period in which he won a total of 33 medals, 21 of which were individual titles, 11 of which were Gold.

The only title which Yuri hasn't obtained is the individual Olympic one.FIG.
