More about VITRICHENKO Elena:
Elena Vitrichenko (UKR)

No other competitor in the history of this sport has demonstrated such an immaculate body movement technique. Even under the penetrating slow motion run of a camera, Elena's routines look as "clean" and "perfect", as during her actual performance. This is what makes Elena Vitrichenko an utterly respected gymnast by all who know Rhythmic gymnastics.

She is an hereditary gymnast - her mother Nina was also rhythmic gymnastics competitor and the fact that Elena was brought up in the gym since the time she was in a pram, ia obvious throughout her appearance on and off the floor.

Her top level career started in the Ukrainian Group Exercise at the 1992 World Championships in Brussels where she won a silver medal. This was the time of Alexandra Timoshenko and Oxana Scadina's World domination and Elena had to wait patiently for her chance.

Slowly but surely she began gaining eyperience and winning medals at major events. Her great break through came at the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games when everybody exept the judges, recognized she was the best. Vitrichenko won Bronze overall, but more than this, she won the unanimous appraisal and love of thousands of spectators and million of viewers.

This was in fact the time when her real ascent started and in the following year Elena won both the World and the european title. Her "Tango" Rope, "Romans" Hoop, "Latino" Clubs and vivacious "Hi, Odessa" Ribbom will remain a sample of the sport for decades.

Elena's best apparatus is the Ribbon which she has become three times World and twice European Champion due to her ability to design a pattern with the 6 meter long ribbon.v.atkinson.

She retired from competition after the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
