|More about LIU Xuan:|
|Born on 12th March 1979, Liu was the oldest member of the Chinesse team in Lausanne 1997, adged 18. She was born in Changsha in China's Hunan Province, and her idol when young was beam expert Li Li. Her mother was a gymnast nack in the days when China did not compete internationally.
Liu's first big competition was the 1994 team world championship in Dortmund. China finished fourth, so Liu was overjoyed when her team won the silver medal the following year in Sabae. Her best personal success came at the 1996 world apparatus championships in Puerto Rico. She won a bronze medal on her favourite event, beam, and caused a sensation on asymetric bars. She performed a one-arm giant and one-arm Gienger, earning a huge ovation from the audience, but a mere 9,7 from the judges and ninth place. Officials had decided not to revard one-arm work on bars, regarding it as too risky.
At the Atlanta Olympics, Liu did not have a good time. Living conditions in the Olympic village were so cramped that the whole team suffered from lack of sleep. She had poor scores and did not qualify to any finals. In Lausanne, she did well to finish seventh place overall.
Liu say the gymnast she most admires today is Svetlana Khirkina, and the best country she has visited is Switzerland. After she retires, she wants to become a judge (GymStars March 98).
Her father is an engineer and hjer mother is an accountant. She enjoys reading and listening to music.
