He was an outsider before the Olympic, having achieved a 3rd place in the All Around during the qualifications of the 2003 World Championships. In Athens 2004, He became an unlucky bronze Olympic medallist at the All Around. His performance could have brought him the gold, but a judging mistake cut 0.1 point of his total. This bumped him to 3rd place in one of the closest competition ever.
