More about MELISSANIDIS Ioannis:
His Olympic title on Floor in Atlanta 1996 made him a National Hero in his country!
His elegance and flexibility as a performer, together with the great deal of originality in his routines, will be long remembered!

Melissanidis is also the 1998 European and 1994 World Silver medallist on Floor. At the 1999 World Championships in Tianjin, China he took the 4th place.

After Atlanta'96 he improved enormously on Vault and became European Champion on this apparatus in 1998, St.Petersburg, Russia. On this apparatus Ioannis is known as a potential medallist anywhere around the world, provided he could stick his landing, and most importantly- he is free from the nasty injuries he suffered lately...
(7th place in Tianjin'99 and 7th at the Sidney'00 Olympics, where he put his hands down on a Yurchenko- double back tucked)

Ioannis Melissanidis was, is, and will always remain a great inspiration for the younger generation of Greek gymnasts, who succeeded his ambition to win medals at Olympic, World and European level.
As a result of this, and with Athens hosting the 2004 Olympic Games, a Greek "invasion" to the rostrum there is more than expected!

Interests: Ice dancing and Diving; movies, actors, politics and Greek tragedy. The person he had most liked to meet is the great actress Melina Mercouri.
