Julia really needs some time to believe she is the 2000 Sydney Olympic Champion. Having lived for six years under the shadow of Batyrchina, Zaripova, Lipkovskaya and then Kabaeva, she did not have the self-confidence of a prima and would hardly ever build one with her kind, close to the earth nature. In reality though, she is the"prima-ballerina" of world class Rhythmic gymnasts by skill, by style and by overall presence.
It is therefore, no wonder, that Yulia was invited to present her"Dying Swan" ball at some very special Galas at the Bolshoi theatre in Moscow.
A very late starter in gymnastics (at the age of 11!) she must have really been"kissed by God", (as her choreographer Vera Chatalina describes her talent), to be able to reach such an extraordinary class of performance.
It was Alina Kabaeva’s mistake with the hoop in Sydney, which contributed greatly to Barsoukova’s winning the Olympic gold, but it was also Yulia’s consistency in the event, which made this happen. Wonders, they say, happen to those, who work hard for them to happen. va/Nov/00 |
